Kasabian not mind telling us they are not really all that good to begin with. They arrived, shiny and perfectly formed, funded by a multinational to live on a farm for 18 months before being "launched" by a costly guerrilla campaign that has made even the always placid Alex Kapranos are annoyed that he launched his Roche own tirade at the new super-gobs.

Then there was the album itself, which is merely good. To be fair, this was not the fault of all Kasabian: they were peddling "crossover dance rock," a genre so difficult that even nefariously Depeche Mode - the group who invented it - are now not only for that. It has done its job, but it is clumsy, and the little soul. Serge Even now described as "nonsense piecemeal."

But then something strange happened. It became clear as soon as Tom Meighan claimed - all on the shoulders Mani - to be the defenders of the north (although Leicester) and denouncing the art-rock posers in the world, to one line We ourselves more brilliant figures of rock-star that we had for years. The tone needs to lower, and there were boys from doing so. In two years of partying with Kasabian and their superstar mates, NME has been accused of resembling a "gay Spanish golfer" by Liam Gallagher and "see like you have a small penis" with Kelly Osbourne.

And even before the Gallaghers Serge and Tom anointed their successors natural, it is obvious that here was a band that would unite indie scruffs you with the Kappa crew in any way since Oasis. Kasabian has become massive, and we overlooked the fact that they were just, y'know, alright, because they were so nice to have around.

And then something even stranger happened. You see, a rock star shit will tremble and baulk despite countless successes, and to call all of their audience and simply stupid. A brilliant we are going to delve into feet first, the chain this adoration, feed and return to the monstrous concerts that feel like at the church. And that's what happened to Kasabian: just one year ago, was in a field somewhere, it suddenly struck us that they had become absolutely incredible band. Knowing all this is true, Tom and Serge started talking about this issue for a long time, stating on several occasions to be "pregnant" with something that sounded like "Marc Bolan crack cocaine smokers with Doctor Who" (Still, we can cite Now, please?). That would have been embarrassing if powerful Empire was crap. But it's not. What they have succeeded, in fact, is the Britpack the first great leap forward.

Much has been made of this new, glam-rock direction, and the opening shot, Empire itself, struts in the platform with her ass back and forward his chest. But that's not all. "Shoot The Runner" (the next single) resumed there, but the career halfway to a great flourishing Middle Eastern string loop. Currently, we are in the middle of summer on the way of love , and "Last Trip (In Flight)" is complete Beatles-psychedelic Marrakech, before bleeding real sunshine pop 'Me Plus One'. "Here, you just take me away / Like a little white rabbit Yesterday, "drawls Tom. Obviously, it is the subject of Ecstasy, but today we are in such a hyper-real wonders that he could sing on Alice, and he still made sense. Before, Tom is simply the king of mantra-song voice. Here, it has become a baby Jagger, the soul singer, while Serge's elegant, voluble guitar, is higher in the mix, taking the lead on a few stick-bat-over - it approach to the last time. Here, the beats are below, and more clever. This is not to say that they have completely abandoned the dancefloor: 'By My Side' - telling thunderous dub period Primal Scream is the best song by a mile, and anyone Danger Mouse with Simian Paul Oakenfold bloody could get their hands on it and be with clubland's next big crossover hit. The only bit which really does not work is the lego-techno instrumental "apnea" - a symbolic gesture that feels tacked on at the instigation of some Um & Aah man wanting "ensure maximum penetration of the entire demographics. " You can skip this step, but you do not want to skip the British Legion - Serge-sung acoustic ballad that staggers the line between genius and atrocious because, by their own admission, is very, very funny. And then, we have "The Doberman." Oh, we have to tell the story of 'The Doberman - the thundering finale that channels the spirit of AC / DC through "Bitter Sweet Symphony" to make the sound of the end of the world. In addition to Muse's disturbed 'Knights Of Cydonia' is the most ridicules ace song of the year, sounding less like a piece of fencing in the big budget of the season finale.

By sheer, bloody-minded belief, quality weapons endurance and great, great imagination, Kasabian have wished themselves into brilliance. There will be a hearty scrap between this lot, and the Muse when Monkeys album of the year comes round.
