When you have a success as big as sloppily and romantic as "Run", the people in your case. Suddenly all these comments which needed an indie rock band as a placeholder / scapegoat, but who do not want to use it again Coldplay has a new name to use! Whatever you want to say about Final Straw, even those of us who have chosen because he loves us "Run", we must recognize that most of this album is very different beast; jaggedly self-lacerating musically and lyrically, most of the album by Rushes as if Gary Lightbody is struggling to get above all that he has wronged, never leaves. Admittedly, the sound is much more polished than the band's earlier work, but their songs and approach successfully enough sand off this brilliant to remain interesting.

Once they had said hit and more support studio, I hoped would Lightbody to the achievement of Brit rock equivalent of Tallahassee, to his peers he was the only one that could even come closer, and more touching moments on Final Straw were most Queasily self-consciousness, the outline of the intersection of passion and a lot of bad ideas. Instead Eyes Open is an album that sounds ready for radio and stage, building on the singles of the previous album and chock full of angsty love songs. It's fantastic.

Make no mistake, I think, in some respects, is more Final Straw "admirable" album, if you are ready to think about the music in this way, a part of me and worries that Eyes Open will be the album, we As one day look back at the beginning of the end, especially if the band is enormous and began to lose their grip and their leaders. But at the moment this record sounds incredible, crammed full of songs you wish were single and a couple of interesting detours, and even three cracks at a new "Run" all on their own merits. Those in search of formal innovation will be bored to tears (as they are easier to get through music), but everybody needs to give another chance to those guys.

While Snow Patrol do not make it easy for you to order. "You're All I Have" is not a horrible choice for a first single, until you have heard the rest of the record, if it is helpful at all that this is an indication of the emotional content Most of the Eyes Open. The title of the Arab Strap "Plea to a general Girlfriend" is the best way to describe it, because if the lyrics are still sometimes smart or funny, there are almost as many as before. It does not matter because that often songs like "Headlights on Dark Roads", "open hands", and "It's Beginning To Get To Me" are more about the forward movement and singing and contemplation or reflection. Even grandiose "Make This Go On Forever" and "Open Your Eyes" sweep you right now-prepared by months of reading to the crowd baying for the likes of "Run" and "chocolate" in the band rips them with enough force What it works.

The quieter moments, snoring and composed pulse of the fence "Finish Line", or the music box flicker of "You Could Be Happy" hew closer to the feeling of Final Straw and more work, but mainly as breathers before another Massé force or chorus crescendo just around the corner. There is even enough room on the album for a pocket-sized "Run" called "Chasing Cars" that satisfies despite the greatness of his cousins (only partly because, for once, it will only vocally Lightbody) . Fortunately, the group has not yet succumbed to excess, even if Eyes Open feels much larger than their previous work, while still part of a cocoon of 45 minutes.

Nietzsche said, "It is easier to be that huge beautiful," but right now Snow Patrol are trying very hard at the same time. Eyes Open is composed of large, with large chunks obvious, obvious hooks, aimed directly at the heart so that the greatest number of people that the group can manage. All this would be bad, horrible, even if it did not work. But it does; Lightbody and the rest of Snow Patrol have managed to change their approach, started to paint with broader strokes and bolder, more obvious colours. They left the smaller and more agile virtues of Final Straw, but they have not just got bigger, they shared the spotlight with a solid that the catchier, brawnier, somehow more convincing. For the moment this is an approach that works for them, the stadium rock without guilt. As far as possible avoid becoming human thought Feeder, Eyes Open could be the start of something big fair.
